Toronto -- Re Canada's Back Door (letter -- Aug. 11):
So Audrey Macklin regards it as "presumptive" to conclude that 123 people arriving in a remote area, without any identification, on an unmarked ship, are illegal immigrants. I would have thought it common sense. Ms. Macklin may believe that her associate professorship of law adds some authority to her views. To me, it merely emphasizes the dismal gulf between common sense and the thinking of our legal establishment.
