HALIFAX -- More Canadian children are living in poverty today than a decade ago, says a new report on the problem.

The National Child Poverty Report Card will be released today in Ottawa, exactly 10 years after MPs in the Commons voted to try to eliminate child poverty by 2000.

Using the latest Statistics Canada figures from 1997, the report says 19.8 per cent of children in the country are living in poverty, up from 15.3 per cent in 1989. CP
