Cross-burning incidents mentioned by MP

Ottawa -- Hedy Fry, the Liberal MP in charge of multiculturalism, told the House of Commons yesterday that people in Prince George, B.C., are burning crosses on lawns "as we speak."

Ms. Fry later said that she was speaking of an earlier hate incident -- not necessarily a cross burning -- in Prince George that she had been made aware of by Mayor Colin Kinsley.

Ms. Fry made the cross-burning comment after she was asked about celebrating International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, which was marked yesterday.
