Police see man commit suicide
Stabbed himself in chestBy KEVIN MASTERMAN, TORONTO SUN
A motorist stabbed himself to death when approached by Toronto Police in a subway station parking lot last night.
The provincial Special Investigations Unit has been summoned to probe the incident at Old Mill subway station
"One of the focuses will be finding the man's movements prior to this," SIU spokesman Jon Ansell said.
Police were called to a parking lot underneath the subway station, in the Bloor St.-South Kingsway area, around 7:15 p.m. to check on a "suspicious" man who had parked down a slope against a cluster of trees.
RUSHED TO HOSPITAL
As several officers approached the car, the man took out a knife and stabbed himself once. The blade was still sunk in his chest as he was wheeled into St. Michael's Hospital by paramedics. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 11 p.m.
SIU investigators still don't know whether there were witnesses to the incident and have yet to talk to the officers involved, including one who accompanied the patient to hospital.
Investigators canvassed subway passengers because the parking lot is visible from the subway platform above.
An autopsy will be done today.
