No special treatment

Re: Feminists Might be Granted Own Hearing on Divorce Law, July 5.

Letter to the editor from Virginia McRae
Co-chair, Federal-provincial-territorial Family Law Committee, Department of Justice, Ottawa.

Your article states that the Department of Justice is considering holding separate sessions for "women's equality seeking organizations." For further clarification, additional sessions for any one group are not under consideration and will not be held.

The consultations offered an opportunity for Canadians to provide their views in writing. All submissions, whether received through the in-person or written consultation processes, will be considered equally. As such, there is no need to provide a separate consultation with women's groups who chose not to attend the in-person sessions.

Virginia McRae, Co-chair, Federal-provincial-territorial Family Law Committee, Department of Justice, Ottawa.
