Woman accused of dangling baby stays in jailThe Toronto Star
A Toronto woman charged with holding her 18-month-old baby out the window of her husband's speeding SUV made a brief appearance at College Park Court today. But, the bail hearing for Thi Phuong Dang, 26, of Toronto was rescheduled for this Thursday. The postponement was granted to allow the Vietnamese-born woman time to consult with her lawyer through an interpreter. Dang will remain in custody, held on charges of failing to provide the necessaries of life for the child, creating a common nuisance and failing to comply with two restraining orders. Police say those orders were taken out by the woman's husband, who had obtained temporary custody of their young child. Her husband had voluntarily broken that order Saturday when he agreed to drive his wife shopping. An argument broke out between the couple in the vehicle, police say, leading to charges against the woman. The incident caused two minor accidents as motorists swerved to avoid the car. The woman has only been in Canada for four or five months, said a friend who came prepared today to post bail. Vin Tran said her friend was working as a seamstress since leaving Vietnam to join her husband at his Eglinton Ave. and Keele St. residence.
