Boy is safe, says fugitive mother
Child being held in Mississauga: CopsBy BRODIE FENLON -- Toronto Sun
A woman who allegedly snatched her Cobourg boy after a violent assault on her estranged husband has contacted police and is believed to be hiding out in the Mississauga area.
Kimberlie March left a phone message with Cobourg police on Friday "saying that she and Jonathan are safe and she's seeking legal advice," Const. Cindy Reeves said yesterday. "Hopefully, she'll call me back. I'm seeing this as a positive sign."
Though March did not disclose her whereabouts, police have received several tips that mother and child are in the Mississauga area.
Five-year-old Jonathan was taken from his father, Bill March, during a violent attack on the driveway of his Cobourg-area home last Sunday night.
March was unbuckling his boy from a car seat at 11 p.m. when he was beaten with a shovel handle and left unconscious and covered in blood.
Kimberlie March, 35, and her boyfriend, Robert Argyle, 38, who live together in Utah, are wanted on charges of assault and assault with a weapon.
Police believe the couple is on the run with Jonathan in a white, Utah-registered Toyota Camry.
A motorist spotted the suspects at 2 p.m. Friday on Airport Rd. in Mississauga. A day earlier, a tipster called to say the couple was travelling west on Hwy. 401 in the same area, Reeves said.
Though news of the sightings are encouraging, Bill March "feels helpless," said his brother, Michael.
"There doesn't seem to be anything he can do."
