Court hearing set for mom charged with killing kidsCalgary Herald
CALGARY (CP) -- One week in November has been set aside for a preliminary hearing for a Japanese woman charged with killing her two small children.
Rie Fujii, 23, faces counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of her 15-month-old son Domenic Brown and her three-month-old daughter Gemini.
Domenic's body was found in an empty Calgary apartment in June. His sister is believed to have been wrapped in plastic and dumped in the nearby Bow River.
Fujii, who has been in custody since June, will return to court Nov. 5 for the week-long hearing which will determine whether there's enough evidence to proceed to trial.
Fujii, who came to Calgary on a visitor's permit a few years ago and never left, is in Canada illegally.
She could face deportation to Japan once the legal proceedings against her are done.
