Woman charged after attempt to murder children

WINNIPEG -- A 36-year-old Winnipeg woman who allegedly tried to kill herself and her two children has been charged with attempted murder.

The woman was being treated in hospital Monday and her children, ages seven and nine, were staying with relatives after being released from hospital.

Police were called to a home in Winnipeg a week ago after Bill Granger, a 53-year-old deaf man from London, Ontario.

He contacted officials to let them know a friend he had made on the Internet threatened in a chat room conversation to ``kill her kids and kill herself.''

Granger says his friend told him in the chat room she had swallowed a mixture of cough syrup and pills after giving the same cocktail to her two children.
