Portage La Prairie, Man. -- An Alberta woman awaiting trial in the shooting death of a Manitoba Mountie has been convicted for her part in an attack at the jail where she is being held.
Laurie Anne Bell, 20, was found guilty of assault against a fellow prisoner at the Portage Correctional Institute on May 18. She received credit for time served in custody following the attack.
Ms. Bell, who is from Edmonton, is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting of Constable Dennis Strongquill, 52, who was killed in December outside the RCMP detachment in Russell, Man. Ms. Bell faces a preliminary hearing next March. CP
