Mum accused of fatherhood lieHerald Sun (Australia)
A SYDNEY woman has been charged after allegedly conning a former partner that he had fathered her child and seeking child support.
Police said the woman, 22, from Chipping Norton, in the city's south-west, and the man, 24, from Lakemba, had been involved in a relationship which ended early in 1999.
The couple remained in contact, and police allege the woman informed the man she was pregnant, eventually had his son and then needed financial support from him.
The man contacted police after seeking legal advice that allegedly raised concerns that documentation provided to him might be fraudulent.
Investigators from Campsie local area command arrested the woman at her home yesterday and took her to Hurstville police station.
She was charged with obtaining benefit by deception and was granted conditional bail to appear at Sutherland local court on September 12.
