Mother of dead baby faces drug chargesBy Jonathan Kingstone -- Toronto Sun
Toronto Police laid drug charges yesterday against the mother of a 6-week-old baby who died two days after he was returned to her custody.
The infant died Sunday after emergency crews were called to a ninth-floor apartment on Wellesley St. E., near Church St.
He had been returned to his mother's care by the Children's Aid Society the previous Friday.
An autopsy found the newborn died of dehydration. The probe into his death continues.
Police said the drugs were found last week during a search of the apartment where the mother lives with another woman.
Carrie Munshaw, the infant's 27-year-old mother, and Jade Barsalou, 19, are charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.
