A 34-year-old teacher is facing three charges of sexually violating a 10-year-old boy who was a former pupil of hers.
The woman appeared in Palmerston North District Court yesterday, where she received interim name suppression until her next court appearance on October 29.
She entered no plea to the charges.
Judge Michael Crosbie also suppressed the location where the offending took place.
Defence lawyer Fergus Steedman said the woman went to the Palmerston North police station on Saturday and told the police about the offending.
Because there had been no complaint laid by the victim, the police file will be sent to the town where the offending took place for investigation.
The three sexual violation charges are representative and occured between December 23, 2001 and September 1, 2002.
The woman was granted bail on the condition that she live in Palmerston North, has no contact with the victim or his family and has no unsupervised access to any child under 16.
