Woman convicted of beating husband released on bond
NBC 4 - News(Gulfport-AP) -- A pregnant Long Beach woman convicted of beating her husband while he slept has been released on bond pending an appeal to the state Supreme Court.
A jury found 36-year-old Melissa Smith Favre guilty of aggravated assault in the December 1997 bludgeoning of Steven Favre, her husband of two days. The attack left him confined to a wheelchair.
A month ago, Harrison County Circuit Judge Steve Simpson sentenced Favre to 20 years in prison. He signed an order this week granting Favre a $500,000 bond while she appeals her case.
According to the order, Favre must live with her parents at their home in Long Beach and comply with a curfew from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. She is prohibited from having contact with Steven Favre or his family.
