UNIONVILLE, N.Y. (AP) -- A New Jersey woman has been charged with manslaughter after allegedly killing her boyfriend by slamming his head on the steps of an upstate New York bar last month. New York state police arrested Roxanne Hakes, 34, Friday after stopping her car near this village, 100 miles south of Albany. Hakes was accused of causing the death of Paul Cosh, 57, of Wantage Township, NJ, following a night of drinking on Sept. 8, police said. Witnesses told police Hakes bashed Cosh's head on the stone steps of Back Track Inn. She also allegedly assaulted two bar patrons who tried to stop the altercation.
Hakes, Cosh and two friends left the bar by car and went to New Jersey, according to a police account. Hours later, Hakes called 911 and reported that Cosh was unconscious. When New Jersey State police arrived, Hakes said Cosh jumped out of the car while it was moving. He died days later. Results of an autopsy showed the injuries that killed Cosh happened at the bar, police said. Hakes is being held at the Orange County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.
