Gatineau girl, 5, found

By JOHN STEINBACHS, Ottawa Sun

A five-year-old Gatineau girl who was abducted last weekend was found Wednesday night by police in New Brunswick.

Fredericton police found the child at the Fredericton Inn with her mother and an unidentified man.

The girl was picked up on Saturday, with her mother's promise to return her the next day. When the woman failed to return her daughter, Gatineau police were called.

The girl's father went to the home where the mother had been staying and found she had cleared out.

Gatineau Lt. Yves Martel said police distributed information about the abduction to forces across Canada after a warrant was issued for the mother's arrest on an abduction charge.

GIRL HEALTHY

Yesterday, the girl was in good health and waiting for her dad to pick her up, Martel said. Two Gatineau police officers left for New Brunswick early yesterday to pick up the mother.

Police are investigating to determine whether more charges are warranted.
