HARTLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- A 24-year-old mother apparently drowned her two daughters in a bathtub before fatally shooting herself, authorities said.

The body of Michelle Vorase was found on her bed with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Livingston County police said Tuesday. All three bodies were found by the woman's 8-year-old boy when he returned home from school.

"I am at a loss of words for something like that," neighbor Jerry Muns told WDIV-TV in Detroit. "I experienced Vietnam and that was nothing compared to this."

Police said Vorase left two suicide notes before apparently drowning Anna Lynn, 22 months, and Olivia Michelle, 4 months, in 8 inches of bathtub water.

The bruises on the face of Anna were "consistent with being held underwater," police said.

The Sheriff's Department is investigating what happened Monday afternoon at the home. Vorase contacted a lawyer about getting a divorce and then called a friend, but that was the last time she was heard from, WDIV reported.

There were reportedly no indications that Vorase was depressed, nor were there signs of abuse regarding the children.

"How does it go from talking to your best friend at 2 p.m. about a divorce to a double-homicide" and suicide? asked Livingston County Undersheriff Robert Bezotte.

Her husband, Scott Vorase, 26, said she displayed no warning signs and hadn't threatened divorce, Bezotte told The Detroit Free Press. The couple quarreled Sunday night, "a little louder than normal," said Bezotte, but nothing extreme.
