Australian man cashes in on ex-wife's deceit

Sydney - In what may be an Australian first, a Melbourne man on Friday won a handsome damages payout from his former wife after a DNA test proved he was not the father of two of their three children.

Liam Magill sued his ex-wife Meredith for deceit after 10 years of making maintenance payments, an Australian news agency reported.

Magill was awarded 70 000 Australian dollars (about R375 000) in compensation for pain, suffering and economic losses.

The Melbourne court was told that the decision was not intended to punish Magill's ex-wife for being unfaithful. - Sapa-DPA
