Kim Basinger's Tough Deal with Alec Baldwin on Child Custody

When they were married, there were rumors that Alec Baldwin was truly king of his castle, regularly bossing around Kim Basinger. Now that they are divorced, Basinger apparently has turned the tables. She has set strict rules concerning visitation rights with their seven-year-old daughter Ireland, which Baldwin has now accepted, according to the New York Daily News.

The couple were officially divorced early this year. In a five-page agreement filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court, Baldwin has agreed to a set of rules which severely limit his ability to see his daughter. As part of the negotiated agreement, Baldwin has agreed to see an anger-management therapist and take a series of at least eight classes "which emphasizes the development of children between the ages of 6 and 8."

Baldwin also agreed to put a phone line in his daughter's room at his expense, and then to only call the little girl between 7 and 8 a.m. and between 6 and 6:30 p.m. Basinger has agreed to teach the child how to use the phone and get her messages from a voice mail system. Baldwin also agreed to only call Basinger in case of an emergency.

When he visits his daughter, who lives with her mother in L.A., Baldwin has agreed to limit his visits to the third weekend of each month, during which he can see her for dinner on Friday and the period of noon to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

If he wants to pay a visit to Ireland's school, he must notify Basinger by email at least one week in advance.

Basinger, for her part, has agreed to send Baldwin an email once a week (on Friday) which summarizes the child's weekly activities. Baldwin then has up to 48 hours to respond with any questions or comments. Basinger also agreed to notify Baldwin within 72 hours if she decides to change where the child goes to school.

Basinger also agreed to inform Ireland's nanny that she is not to tattle on Baldwin when they are together. In the words of the court order, the nanny "shall not perform a monitoring function."

Baldwin reportedly has "bent over backward to create the best environment for his child," a source told the newspaper. "He doesn't see Ireland as much as he likes. But he's taking movies that are shooting in California to see her as much as he can. Kim has gone out of her way to be cruel and to use her daughter as a pawn."

Basinger's rep declined to comment "on a legal matter." Baldwin's rep told the newspaper that "Alec believes that he and Kim are taking all the necessary steps to successfully co-parent their child as a divorced couple."
