Police have not identified the boy

Police in Edinburgh are treating the death of a five-year-old as suspicious.

The boy was found at an address in the Leith area of Edinburgh, at about 0830 GMT.

Lothian and Borders Police were called to the house after a woman was found injured on the pavement.

She was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

It has been reported that the incident happened at the New Bell's Court apartment block in the Shore area of Leith, but police would not confirm the address.

The area is increasing popular with house buyers, and the incident is thought to have happened on the inside of a quadrangle of modern buildings, many with small balconies and private parking.

Francois Vilmot, 31, a barman who lives in the block, said police told him a woman had fallen from the window of a third floor flat at about 0800 GMT.

He said three police and forensic officers had been working at the entrance to the block between 1000 GMT and 1500 GMT.
