Woman charged in fatal beatingBy Rob Lamberti TORONTO SUN
A woman has been charged with first-degree murder in the killing of a man whose bloodied body was found in a Scarborough apartment hallway.
The arrest came late Monday, a day after Toronto homicide detectives and the family of victim Dave Soodeen, 32, pleaded for help in solving the case.
Soodeen was found in the hallway of a low-rise Danforth Rd. apartment building north of Eglinton Ave. around 5 p.m. on Boxing Day. An autopsy showed he died of blows to the head.
A native Trinidadian and one of eight siblings, Soodeen was in the process of applying for landed-immigrant status after arriving in Canada two months ago.
Soodeen, who was living in Scarborough, was last seen leaving his house in a taxi several hours before a frightened teen found him dead on his building's back stairs.
He was slumped against the wall with his pants down, apparently from being dragged six metres from the scene of the attack, police said.
It appears the victim, who wasn't robbed, didn't fight back.
Jaime Ramaya, 26, is charged with first-degree murder. She was remanded in custody after a brief court appearance yesterday.
